Micro:bit and MakeCode

The MaxIQ xChips are modular, plug-and-play components that easily interface with the BBC Micro:bit to expand its functionality for a range of educational and prototyping projects. With these xChips, users can build circuits without soldering or complex wiring, making it ideal for classrooms, beginners, and rapid prototyping. Each xChip performs specific tasks like sensing, power management, or communication and connects seamlessly with others through a unique connector system. This allows Micro:bit users to add modules like environmental sensors, displays, or GPS receivers, transforming the Micro:bit into a versatile platform for a wide range of applications.
As students progress through school to university, these same xChips support advanced programming in languages such as Python, Arduino C/C++, and more. Coding with xChips on the Micro:bit can start with MakeCode’s drag-and-drop interface, making it easy to build foundational coding skills. For more advanced projects, students can transition to text-based programming, enabling more complex functions and customization in Python and other languages. This flexibility lets students develop skills progressively, applying xChips to explore IoT projects, data logging, and scientific experiments, whether they’re in primary school or tackling university-level engineering challenges.
